Ever since countries across the world issued lockdown orders to help flatten the curve and mitigate the impact of the coronavirus, people have been stuck at home looking for new workout resources.
For some of us, who already have a sweet home gym, this didn't necessarily bother us. But for the rest of us, it's an issue. Not everyone has a dedicated workout space or even knows what you need to set up a home gym or dedicated workout space. Thankfully, you don't need very much in the way of equipment to stay active and get fit - even while you are social distancing.
As a nutrition coach, I teach women how to transform their bodies through a combination of good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Here are some of the resources that I recommend to my clients:
Beachbody on Demand (BOD) has had an online fitness platform for awhile now. They offer a wide variety of workouts from cardio HIIT, strength training (body weight & hand weight), yoga, dance, kickboxing and more.
Popular workout programs include: 80 Day Obsession, 100 Day Morning Meltdown, 21 Day Fix. They offer an app that you can download and this makes it easy to take your workouts anywhere. So if you want to do them in your backyard, at the park or at the gym (when they re-open) you can totally do that. Beachbody is one of my go-to resources and I love the variety of workouts that they offer.
In addition to online workouts, customers can also order equipment for their home gym, sign up for nutrition programs and get their signature Shakology protein powder. Right now they are offering a free trial when you sign up for a 3 month membership, to help get you started.
Peleton is well known for it's amazing bike and treadmill that come loaded with top of the line features. What is perhaps less well known is that they have an online streaming service similar to Beachbody that anyone can sign up for. That's right, you don't need to buy their equipment to sign up for their app which has thousands of workouts, both live and recorded.
With a plethora of workouts to choose from including running, strength training, yoga, cardio, cycling, meditation and more - there is something for everyone on this app. I have to say, their yoga workouts are the best I have ever tried. And their meditation exercises are amazing. Right now, Peleton is offering a free trial to help you get started as well.
If you enjoy barre classes, this is one of the best online workout resources for you. With the online streaming service, you get the same classes you would get in the studio and have the option to pick from a variety of workouts so that you can focus on specific areas of your body.
If you have never tried barre workouts before, they are a tremendous way to isolate and focus on specific muscles in your body so you can tone, strengthen and tighten them. I know from experience that barre workouts seem deceptively simple but they get great results! This platform emphasizes the connection between mind and body so there is a lot of focus on really connecting with your body in the workouts. As with other online workouts, Barre3 is offering a free trial to help you get started.
Can I just say that I want one of these? Seriously. This mirror is one of those high tech, blow your mind, fitness tools that hangs on your wall and becomes everything from your personal trainer to an online workout streaming platform. The reflective service is interactive and the personal trainer can actually see you (how cool is that?!) and it's mirrored surface allows you to see yourself so you can check your form. Its your cardio class, your yoga studio, your personal trainer ... and so much more. If you are looking for an amazing home workout solution, The Mirror fits the bill. Check it out today!
If you're not looking for online workout options and just want simple workouts that you can print off and do anywhere, Pinterest is a great resource. Offering endless workout options, you can find everything there from bodyweight workouts, resistance or strength training workouts, yoga, cardio and more. Plus, this option is completely free - which is appealing right now. Looking for a few workouts to get you started? Visit my Pinterest workout board here!
YouTube is one of those platforms where you can literally find anything and workouts are no exception. Regardless of what type of workout you are looking for - yoga, dance, aerobics, cardio, strength training - you can find it. Workouts range from beginners to advanced and one of my personal favourites is The Body Coach who leads you through some excellent - and challenging - workouts. Other good workouts to check out are: Bodyrocks, Lean Machine, Box HIIT with Jule Jaws ... just to name a few.
So there you go - some great home workout resources to help you stay active, get fit and feel fabulous. If you are new to working out at home, there are lots of options to help you get started easily.
